SLOW's First Album In Four Years Is Glorious Funeral Doom Metal (Lyric Video Debut)

The last time we heard from the prolific Belgian artist and producer Déhà, he was making impenetrably raw black metal as Chaînes. Now, Déhà returns once again, and much slower this time, with his atmospheric funeral doom metal project SLOW. Standing for "Silence Lives Out/Over Whirlpool," SLOW's funereal pacing and astral ambiance draws from the project's roots as an ambient and drone project, a sound which pervades with SLOW's dense and beautiful synthesizer and keyboard work. Make no mistake, though, as this is most definitely a funeral doom metal project, rife with mournful guitar leads, a crushingly lugubrious rhythm section, and Déhà's chameleonic voice–here manifested as deep growls and terrifying screeches. It took four years for SLOW's upcoming Abîmes I to appear–a surprising amount of time for the quick and fantastic work Déhà generally does with the many albums he releases in a year's span–and the time put into this one shows. Though SLOW's music is generally great, Abîmes I displays a greater maturity in songwriting and performance than previous releases.
