Entering Déhà's Chaînes Dungeon (Early Track Debut)

The legendary Déhà should need no introduction, but allow me to announce his presence, anyway. The prolific Belgian musician and producer has countless projects–seemingly a new one each week–and with each new project comes a new micro-element of his musical personality. From suffocating, torturous doom metal to blistering black metal (and many other extra-curriculars), Déhà's residence in the underground scene is a welcome one, as he constantly pushes himself and raises the proverbial bar again and again.

With Chaînes, Déhà looks to the past. A decrepit, dried out corpse of a project, Chaînes' debut Les Litanies des Chaînes is a horrific display of lo-fi, hyper-atmospheric black metal which hearkens back to a time when songwriting came first and delay and reverb pedals came second (if at all). The heavy and hypnotic drum machine use is also reminiscent of a certain Norwegian black metal band (the Lost Masters of the Universe, if that helps), which is refreshing given Déhà's penchant for sounding like his fellow French-speaking musical peers (read as: melodic riffing and Romantic approach). Even so, Chaînes does not sound mechanized. This is all organic, full-nutrition black metal for the elitist in all of us. Watch a unique video, featuring Déhà's own single-take vocal recording, for "Que vos morts soient souillés jusqu'à l'os" below.

Les Litanies des Chaînes releases October 31st via Amor Fati Productions.
