Century Media signs actual underground band: Sonne Adam
. . .
Century Media is not the first name that comes to mind for underground metal. But for those who cherry-pick that side of their roster (Triptykon, Deicide, Dark Fortress, Krisiun, Napalm Death), we have a new favorite: Sonne Adam. One commentator described them as “an Israeli Mitochondrion”. This is ugly, glorious filth inspired by early Paradise Lost and Morbid Angel; the Armed with Hammers 7″ EP includes a burly cover of Darkthrone’s “The Serpents Harvest”. You can stream the EP below. It’s bad-ass.
Sonne Adam (which evidently means “hate humanity” in Hebrew) will be labelmates with Vampires Everywhere! and Winds of Plague. I don’t know what Century Media is doing signing this stuff. It can’t be a big money maker. But the label’s roots were in first-generation death metal, so this nod to that is welcome. Let’s hope Sonne Adam don’t get lost in a roster of higher-priority, glitzier bands.
A new album, Transformation, comes out April 4 in Europe. I really hope it comes out in North America soon. This is the best thing to come from Israel since Tangorodrim and Hell Darkness. (Bar Refaeli ain’t bad, either.)
