Your Highness RagBag Vol 1

Riffs Like a Sack of Bricks: Your Highness Comes Out Swinging on "The RagBag Vol. 1" (Early EP Stream)

There’s an interesting sense of finality to Your Highness’ new EP The RagBag Vol. 1 — despite the obvious clue in the title that there’s more to come, the song names all emphasize completion in some way. “To Dust,” “Done,” and “Tie it Up” — on their new EP, the Belgian sludge metal crew are out to end your life and crush you into the floor. Stream it here before it releases on Thursday.

While the upcoming second volume will dive into the band’s darker, dronier side, The RagBag Vol.1 taps into their pure rock energy. They deliver three songs full of an untamed sludgy furor with some melodic undercurrents — beneath the crushing riffs, tasty little licks and progressive hints lurk. At its core, this is brusque rock’n’roll piped through enormous amplifiers and imbued with more than a little attitude, but there’s still a lot more here than sheer momentum. Each song has a heavy, hard-hitting core, but Your Highness wraps them in twisting layers that even venture into psychedelic territory. It’s worth taking a moment to ponder the snarled lyrics and fascinating leads that add depth to this release — just try not to lose your footing.

The RagBag Vol. 1 releases June 30th independently via Bandcamp. Check out the band’s website for more information.
