Almost exactly one year from the release of their impressive full-length debut …In The Shadows Below, Seattle doom rock duo Year of the Cobra return with five more slabs of psychedelic dirge on their Burn Your Dead EP. This latest offering finds the band exploring realms beyond the "metal" tag, putting Amy Tung Barrysmith's remarkable singing voice front and center and incorporating subtle piano passages.

Despite these additions the title track -- and its accompanying video – it's all hard and heavy. Much like their video for “The Siege," the budget is low and the concept is simple: the band rocks out and creepy stuff happens around the edges. In this case, a burly bearded dude tools around town in his rat rod, comes across a body bag, and, well… the song title says it all.

It’s a fun watch, and doing it in black and white adds to the Herschell Gordon Lewis vibe. Drummer Jon Barrysmith works the ride cymbal like Corrosion of Conformity’s Reed Mullin, and the doom breakdown in the middle of the song is a surprising but welcome left turn. “Burn Your Dead” sounds dynamic too, due in no small part to Billy Anderson once again working his magic behind the boards.
