New York by way of Chicago doom collective Wrekmeister Harmonies have just released the first single from their upcoming album The Alone Rush, titled "Covered in Blood From Invisible Wounds." You can stream it below via Spotify.

Unlike the band's previous few records, The Alone Rush was recorded solely by multi-instrumentalists and singers Esther Shaw and JR Robinson, with percussion assistance from Swans drummer and pro-bono self defense coach Thor Harris.

Befitting their stripped-down lineup, the new Wrekmeister Harmonies has matched the band's immense patience with an even more restrained sound. While "Covered in Blood From Invisible Wounds" is just as meditative and transportive as the doom chamber music of Night of Your Ascension, it uses far fewer materials to build its haunting world.

"Covered in Blood From Invisible Wounds" is a kind of grisly immersion therapy. At the center of the song is Robinson's morose baritone, describing a litany of nightmarish images. The Alone Rush was written and recorded while both Robinson and Shaw dealt with the passing and illness of those close to them.

While this song's lyrics don't address their personal experiences with grief, the morbid subject matter sees the band grappling with death by staring its brutal details in the face. When a human body breaks apart, spilling viscera onto Robinson from above, the music takes it in stride, Shaw's violin wavering lightly in the background. Another day, another death.
