Woe Legacy of Frailties

"Fresh Chaos Greets the Dawn" As Woe's Black Metal Spills Out (Early Track Stream)

Woe’s debut album A Spell for the Death of Man celebrated its 15th anniversary this week, and in 2023, the band’s creative driving force Chris Grigg remains concerned with the fate of humankind, only now his focus has shifted to the terrestrial realities ahead of us rather than the spiritual conflicts within.

The result of this focus is Woe’s formidable new album Legacies of Frailty, and today, we premiere the first song on that album “Fresh Chaos Greets The Dawn.” In a recent conversation with us, Grigg provided background for the song in the context of the album.

…[W]e see the social fabric breaking down; we see economic stability in question; we see war on the rise; we see the planet collapsing, all of this coming together had me thinking in very apocalyptic, very metal terms. When you put it together narratively against a backdrop of people constantly fighting each other and some adapting regressive ideologies that we thought were long forgotten, it can feel like we’re unable to change the path that we’re on. So the album flows narratively beginning with the awakening of this thing.

We’ll be publishing our full, extensive interview with Chris soon as well.

Using death metal's percussive force to append Woe’s black metal melodicism, resulting in an opener that wastes no time in setting the tone and sound of the album, which can now be preordered ahead of its September 29 release via Vendetta Records and Grigg himself.
