Wo Fat The Singularity

Wo Fat Cruises Through "The Snows of Banquo IV" (Early Track Stream)

Wo Fat‘s dynamic stoner rock has always conveyed momentum like little else in the genre. Despite long song runtimes and esoteric subject matter, the Dallas rockers have a knack for writing headbang-worthy and energetic riffs that flow effortlessly into each other to transport listeners to fantastic vistas. In fact, I don’t think they’re capable of writing anything clunky—for further evidence, Wo Fat’s upcoming seventh full-length The Singularity is a densely-packed odyssey that illustrates its sci-fi settings with endlessly compelling songwriting and far-out atmosphere. It’s a world to get lost in, so enjoy eight minutes of buttery, crunchy stoner goodness with “The Snows of Banquo IV,” streaming below.

Twisted, gnarly riffs like the one that kicks off “The Snows of Banquo IV” are one of Wo Fat’s specialities, but there’s more in store here, including a softer 70s-style jam in the second half and a galloping, up-tempo section that immediately follows it up. The band unites all of it seamlessly, and this far-off voyage seems to end sooner than it should, given its runtime. Fret not: The Singularity will provide many more minutes of effervescent groove.

Guitarist/vocalist Kent Stump comments:

The Snows of Banquo IV was one of the last songs written and recorded for the new album and is one of my favorites on the record. A friend of mine is one of the creators of sci-fi horror RPG Mothership and he reached out to me about a new game module and wanted Wo Fat to contribute a song. Sci-fi horror, as you might expect, is right up my alley, so I was on board immediately! I used the storyline as an inspiration and lyrical theme. In writing the song, the concept for the game along with things going on around us in the real world, led to the song being about larger ideas regarding the power of words and language and how they can be used to twist reality and manipulate people into doing unthinkable things. Now crank up the volume!

The Singularity releases May 6th via Ripple Music.
