Sunny days are not for funeral doom metal, but I can make a few exceptions. The new project of Mourning Dawn’s Laurent Chaulet, Wastes treads the fine line between romantic majesty and horrific emptiness. One lengthy song spread out across seven parts, Into the Void of Human Vacuity expresses Chalet’s sadness and disdain with subtle melodies hidden within large, hollow textures. Save this one for a horrific summer storm.
