Video Premiere: Vainaja - "Viimeinen Tuomio"

Is brutal doom metal an official subgenre? If it isn’t, I’m nominating Vainaja as a representative band for it. Katotetut is Vainaja’s debut album, and “Viimeinen Tuomio” is some low, slow, and punishing stuff. Actually, let’s just called it death/doom, no need to make the genre categorization and proliferation problem worse. Fans of Winter and diSEMBOWLEMENT will want to check this out.

The video’s opening references some creepy goings-ons in Finland that have just come to light. Presumably that’s what the video is reenacting. In recent years, a number of bands have decided that their music and live shows are rituals. “Viimeinen Tuomio” feels that way; the vocals are delivered as a slow recitation. If google translate is to
be believed, they concern human sacrifice and summoning evil. The video and music complement each other quite well, is what I’m saying.

If you want to hear more of Kadotetut, it’s out already courtesy of Svart Records.

In case you were wondering, no, that’s not former Invisible Oranges editor and current Pyrrhon frontman Douglas Moore in the video. He’s much less handsome.
