Upcoming Metal Releases: 6/15/2014 – 6/21/2014

It’s not unusual to see a theme run through a new release list. Sometimes you get the sense labels call each other to make sure the styles are matchy-matchy. (“You’re dropping post-metal? Uh, me too!” he said, keeping Lykathea Aflame in the vault.) This week? You’ve got more options than a mile-long Chipotle.

For instance, if your ears have been aching for a respite from anger, this week’s slate provides some rest stops. DRCARLSONALBION, Musk Ox, and Tamerlan eschew typical metal timbres for something closer to a calm. Plus, if you’re looking to indulge a sweet-leaf tooth, Boris and Moab stack enough road trip riffs to put you in a hook coma.

That said, it’s not like all of the bruisers took a vacation. Blut Aus Nord and P.H.O.B.O.S. get together just in time to issue some of the strongest work of their respective careers. Boddicker and Dead Again swing core like it’s a spiked baseball bat. And Barghest‘s filthy black metal might as well push mud out your earbuds. Those baddies are nasty, the heavies are heavy. Nevertheless they’re all a different shade. Enjoy the variety.

See something we missed? Goofs? Let us know in the comments. Plus, as always, feel free to post your own shopping lists. Happy digging.
