Upcoming Metal Releases: 1/12/2013 – 1/18/2014

Look, one more list. Honest. That’s all we’re asking for. You’re antsy, we get it. You’re fiending for the hashtag hotness, we’re telling you to cool down and take a stroll through the lilies. However, trust us, it’s coming. Next time we talk, we’ll be floating in Alcests and Indians like we’re heavy metal Noahs. Today, though, enjoy the final calm with these new buds before we blink and it’s December 2014.

Once again, this round-up is the weight of a feather, but plenty will tickle. Ea are an anon spawn of doom brawn, Mammoth Storm give an ample trampling, and Sacrificial Blood would still be filthy even if bathed in bleach suds. See? These are neat things, worthy of exploration. So, take a look around. You’re going to miss this during the aftermath of the new release avalanche.

See something we missed? Goofs? Let us know in the comments. Plus, as always, feel free to post your own shopping lists. Happy digging.

New metal releases for the week of 1/12/2013 – 1/18/2014. Release dates are formatted according to proposed North American scheduling, if available. Expect to see the bulk of these records on shelves or distros on Tuesday unless otherwise noted. Blurbs and designations are based on available promotional material and perceived buzz.

Anticipated Releases:

Ea – A Etilla | Solitude Productions | Funeral doom
Cowled in anonymity, these pallbearers carry a similar casket as the synth-embellished, melodic Monolithe. EM listed lyrical themes, you ask? “Ancient Sacred Texts in a Dead Language.” Dead language, eh? Like “excuse me” on the subway?

Of Note:

Alkerdeel & Gnaw Their TonguesDyodyo Asema | ConSouling Sounds | Black metal
Don’t call it a split; it’s a collabo. Two of metal’s noisiest pay tribute to ConSouling Sounds’ longevity with 19 minutes of ear-splitting bat-poopery. Available to be streamed in full here.

Black Magic – Wizard’s Spell | High Roller Records | Blackened thrash
Sadomancer of Deathhammer is one half of this Norwegian time machine. Awarded a Fenriz Band of the Week a ways back. Despite the notoriety, their web presence is, perhaps appropriately, zilch. Here’s a cut from their 2010 demo.

God Disease – Abyss Cathedral | Cycle of Horror Productions | Death metal
Finnish OSDM putridity framed with phlegm-y gurgles and writhing doom leads.

Iskald – Nedom og Nord | Indie Recordings | Black metal
A frosty Norse force with a grip on how to handle a tempered-with-melody blade. No North American date yet, if ever, so this is just a heads-up.

Mammoth Storm – Rite of Ascension | Self-released | Doom, stoner metal
Dropped on to Bandcamp last week with barely a peep, so this downed-power-line Swedish stoomer deserves a deeper inhale. Includes a member of Draconian.

Sacrificial Blood – SoulS for Sale | Horror Pain Gore Death Productions | Death/thrash
Nimble-as-heck Joisey speed fest with a deathly drill sergeant. Metal lifers with a YouTube channel that will burn through your workday.

Satanika – Nightmare | Iron Shield Records | Blackened thrash
Croaks underscored with thrash riffs as if someone put all of the baseball cards in all of the bicycle spokes. Features members from the Italian iteration of Massemord.

We All Die (Laughing) – Thoughtscanning | Kaotoxin | Black metal, prog metal
A single 30-plus minute track with more shifts than the workers at a Qatar skyscraper construction. Fronted by Arno Strobl of Carnival of Coal. Recommended for fans of Green Carnation, the post-black incarnation of Manes and its offshoots (kkoagulaa), and other experimental number stations.
