Uada Unleash "Snakes & Vultures"

cult of a dying sun

Today, Portland-based black metal quartet Uada released a new track (albeit in lyric video form) from their hotly anticipated sophomore full-length Cult of a Dying Sun. Stream “Snakes & Vultures” below:

Banking on the success of 2016’s Devoid of Light, Uada have taken a well-lit route revamping and tweaking past techniques under the same identifiable aesthetic. They’ve retained their groove — that ascending, chorus-driven umph — while leaning and tightening their attack. Unashamed of its easy-to-follow song structure, “Snakes & Vultures” also prides itself on desaturated riffing and crisply straightforward drumming, which Uada executes well. The song would find itself quite comfortable at home on Devoid of Light, actually — a testament to Uada’s consistency. Ditto for the lyrics:

Snakes the great deceivers,
Governing the minds of man.
True falsifiers,
Coiling and constricting their master plan.
Leeches, cheats, and liars,
Infecting the deepest drinking pools.
Pure, poison in the mire,
Where we squirm like worms and defenseless fools.

On stage, Uada knows how to attract a crowd; likewise, and not unrelatedly, they know how to put on a show. All the tracks from Cult of a Dying Sun will have significant stage value when performed at full-tilt during their live set: the band’s doses of groove, fury, and style intermix to form a wholly stimulating audiovisual experience. On record, though, we’ll see if they hold up to increased scrutiny and closer listens. Following a highly successful debut release is tricky business, though certainly Uada knows some tricks of the trade.

Cult of a Dying Sun releases May 25th via Eisenwald. Pre-order and listen to another track from the album on Bandcamp.

Uada will soon be kicking off a North American tour with Wolvhammer and The Black Moriah. Dates here:
