Top 6 things to know about Scion Rock Fest 2011

. . .

Here’s what you need to know about Scion Rock Fest 2011.

. . .

IT’S TOO LATE TO RSVP

The RSVP list is already full. Over this past weekend, via Facebook, I witnessed basically the entire Los Angeles area metal scene RSVP to this sumbitch.

. . .

26 BANDS, 20 ANNOUNCED SO FAR

The above flyer lists 20 bands. Evidently the bill will contain 26. Any guesses/hopes for the other six bands?

. . .

CROM IS PLAYING

Scion had better hire paramedics.

. . .

MANOWAR IS NOT

They will be in Worcester, MA that night (see other Manowar dates here).

. . .

GATHERING OF THE NERDS

For those who are going, indicate in the comments below if you’re interested in an “IO Gathering of the Nerds”. Reader “TomB” suggested this using exactly those words. If there’s sufficient interest, it will happen. I know a nearby taqueria that can probably handle torturous discussions about Deathspell Omega.

. . .

WE ARE A TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC

The first Scion Rock Fest was in Atlanta. The second was in Columbus, OH. This third one is in Pomona, just outside of Los Angeles.

Notice a pattern?

These are all locales afflicted by urban sprawl. You need cars to get around these places. That’s why Scion sets up shop there. Don’t expect a Rock Fest in San Francisco or Boston anytime soon.

Ergo, my prediction for 2012: Houston, with dark horse pick Las Vegas. Imagine a free metal fest plus Las Vegas! Invisible Oranges suite at Bellagio – let’s do it!
