Tidal Wave The Lord Knows

Tidal Wave Beckons Us Into the Hazy Madness of the "Pentagram" (Video Premiere)

The music video that Swedish stoner rockers Tidal Wave have put together for their new single “Pentagram” is brilliantly simple: excepting a bizarre kidnapping scene at the beginning and some live footage, we’re generally just treated to the corpse-painted band dicking around in what looks to be a castle; at the end, a banner proudly declares they spent a solid $30 on it. When you’ve already got a great song–which “Pentagram” assuredly is–less is more, and the black-clad, torch-wielding antics somehow prove the perfect complement to an insanely groovy song.

While at their core Tidal Wave are essentially ‘orthodox’ stoner rock–think big fuzzy riffs, drums locked into indulgent grooves–the band taps into traditional doom to anchor things in a pocket of gloom and theatricality as well. That’s perhaps most evident here on “Pentagram,” while tracks like “Robbero Bobbero” show off their mainline stoner rock prowess and command of momentum. As the video for “Pentagram” illustrates, The Lord Knows harnesses stoner rock’s capacity for fun as well as its sheer magnetic allure. The Lord Knows releases this Friday, January 20th via Ripple Music.
