The Fucking Wrath - Season of Evil

Goddammit, another death ‘n’ roll record. How many of these things do I have to review before the trend goes away? OK, no one is forcing me to listen to these records. But, admittedly, I’m a fan of the sound, and there’s a certain fun in seeking out variations on a theme. If metal record collections contained only innovators, we’d each have, like, 10 albums.

However, The Fucking Wrath blow away my biases against their choice of genre. Sure, there’s not an original note here, but at least this Ventura, CA band picks the right ones to crib. Stir up d-beat, hardcore, thrash, Motörhead, and Entombed, add a dollop of stoner rock, serve with beefy, gristly production, and you have The Fucking Wrath. Some moments on Season of Evil (Goodfellow, 2007) could seriously go toe-to-toe with the old Black Flag.

Not only are the songs distinguishable from each other (which is rare for this genre), they also kick like an armless ninja. The performances are raging. John Crerar beats the skins like rented mules, and the guitars sling ragged, electric tones. This fun little record flies by in 26 minutes; get it from Goodfellow or Interpunk.
