The Antichrist Flying V

. . .

Behold the Antichrist Flying V. According to luthier Dylan Humphries, “This guitar is my attempt to make the most metal guitar so far in the history of mankind.” He may have succeeded. The axe has centuries-old woodcut visuals depicting all sorts of religious mischief. In the video above, Humphries calls the design on the back “the reverse annunciation.” The Biblical annunciation has the angel Gabriel approaching Mary. This scene shows Satan with a woman – Mary? To my knowledge, Satan never approached Mary, nor has anyone tried to portray that. Humphries explains:

The scene on the back I took from a reference book I have entitled Devils, Demons, and Witchcraft. I think the image is European 16th century in origin. I don’t think the woman in it is supposed to be Mary; I think it is just a princess. Mary is always portrayed as an austere woman, and this woman has long hair. I think that anybody who portrayed Mary in that context would probably have been in a lot of trouble.

Humphries has no such fear; his Daemoness Guitars shop features a “Present from Hades” six-string. The Antichrist Flying V is his best work so far. It has a mahogany body with high-quality parts: Earvana nut, Gotoh tuners, single EMG pickup. You can see pictures of it here. Deicide would be its perfect clients. Humphries is collaborating with Simon Bisley (comic book artist who did the artwork for Danzig’s Thrall: Demonsweatlive and 6:66 Satan’s Child) on a limited edition guitar. The result will surely be something to behold.
