"Towards Perdition" is a hell of a song. Maybe that's why Finnish black metal outfit Teloch (not the guitarist from Nidingr and Mayhem) have held onto it for almost a decade. This song was the title track to the band's first demo, released in 2007. Its appeal isn't hard to parse out. While the guitars are as buzzing as one expects from black metal, take a listen to that huge, but simple drum pattern. A less creative band might call this "black and roll" were it not for the ranting, chorusless vocals of T.I., formerly Odium.

This version, culled from their upcoming album Thus Darkness Spake, is hardly leftovers, however. Teloch often play live, and "Towards Perdition" v 2.0 benefits both from years of honing and a studio production which wisely keeps their black metal grit intact while offering clarity and, yes, audible bass tone.
