Spill Your Guts Hit The Road For Their "Get Impaled" Video

Spill Your Guts are no strangers to life on the road. Over past few years, the Shanghai quintet have taken their propulsive brand of blackened hardcore across Southeast Asia to Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, and have performed in multiple incarnations of the annual China Hardcore Festival in Beijing. At the moment this piece goes live, they’ll be onstage in Qingdao. If there’s a room in China with a drum kit and an amp or two, odds are that Spill Your Guts have demolished it.

This past October, Spill Your Guts embarked on their longest-ranging tour yet, traversing the Trans-Siberian railway for an ambitious 10-date stint in Russia. Now, they’ve compiled footage from the tour into a new music video for “Get Impaled,” a powerhouse track off their recent full-length debut Hungry Crows. Check it here in our exclusive premiere:

The video blends a mosher’s-eye view of the group’s riotous live shows with a behind-the-scenes look into how five hardcore-fueled Shanghai denizens handle life on the road. “The video was filmed while on tour across Russia,” said vocalist Dima Bir, “and features the Trans-Siberian Railway experience, vodka, anti-Putin protests, underground bedroom wrestling, insane mosh pits, Russian bathhouses and blast beats.”

Bir founded Spill Your Guts in 2012 along with drummer Tyler Bowa and original bassist Toshi K. Since then, Bir and Bowa have steered the band through a whirlwind of personnel shifts — par for the course in Shanghai’s turbulent music scene. The current lineup features longtime bassist Ian Benot as well as guitarists Larry Miller and Martin Aamodt.

Hungry Crows is available on Spill Your Guts’ Bandcamp page, as are their earlier EPs. For more footage of the crew in action, watch this live video recorded at a secret jam room show in Shanghai.
