Judas Priest is always worth talking about, but this year holds an interesting milestone: their hard-hitting album Painkiller turned 30 in September. While that record means a lot to our staff and we even delved into its creation, there’s plenty more to talk about when it comes to one of the most legendary heavy metal bands out there.

Listening to Sad Wings of Destiny, it’s baffling that this same band would be able to take their heavy metal formula and reinvent it multiple times — with a few misses here and there, sure, but ultimately creating a legacy for themselves that spans far beyond their first few albums. It was only right that we take the opportunity early in our podcast career to “deep dive” into one of the most formative bands for both heavy metal and our personal relationships with the genre as a whole.

Joe Aprill and Langdon Hickman took lead on this one, and one thing is extremely clear: holy shit, do they love Judas Priest.
