Screaming Bloody Oranges

Screaming Bloody Oranges, Episode #16: A Year with No Live Music

When we recorded this episode, it happened to be exactly a year to the day when pandemic lockdown restrictions canceled the first show I had tickets to—followed by an inevitable, if depressing, wave of cancellations and postponements. That was then followed by more waves of this as expectations were adjusted and reality set in.

Today, things are… in flux. Depending on where you are, you might have live shows right now, or they might be a distant hope. And yeah, festivals are still being postponed… again. Writers Joe Aprill, Langdon Hickman, Brandon Corsair, and myself discussed our own situations in our new podcast episode, but for the most part we reminisced about the shows we’ve seen and what we miss. As it turns out, a few of us have been at the same festivals as each other in the past and didn’t know it—the weird sort of ships-passing-in-the-night occasions that have been completely absent this past year. We’re all waiting to see how events develop, but it always seems like there’s one more corner to turn. In the meantime, join us as we remember live music and our experience without it this past year.
