The last time we saw Australian performance artist, crossdresser, and metal vocalist Ladybeard, they were rocking Con-Alt-Delete here in Chicago with feats of strength and wrestling dramatics alike. Now, four years later, Ladybeard returns to tackle a greater foe: cuteness. With two young Japanese popstars, Suzu and Kotomi, in tow, Babybeard‘s cupcake-themed take on the niche kawaii metal genre, which boasts acts like Babymetal, Deadlift Lolita, and more, focuses on metal’s most adorable elements and puts them under an electron microscope. Babybeard will be divisive, but Ladybeard and co. simply do not care. They just want to have fun.
