Sanctuary - "Future Tense" (video)

Sanctuary – “Future Tense” (official video)

. . .

One door closes, another one opens. Nevermore’s recent implosion had me wondering what the members would do going forward. Jeff Loomis and Van Williams are talented musicians, and I’m sure we’ll hear more from them.

As for Warrel Dane and Jim Sheppard, the time is ripe for Sanctuary’s return. (See reunion news here.) It has an aspect of unfinished business, as the band disbanded at its peak. 1990’s Into the Mirror Black still holds up today, and I, for one, am curious to hear a follow-up.

Sometimes I’ll search for random bands on YouTube to see if they have videos I’ve missed. A search for “Sanctuary metal” struck gold with “Future Tense”. I believe it’s Sanctuary’s only official video to date. It’s very late-’80s/early ’90s: the musicians rocking out in some nonsensical, desolate location; cutaways to individual members shredding (unplugged, of course); the screen looming nearby showing “social commentary”; the black-and-white-negative effect; Dane’s bodacious bangs.

Would I have bought this CD (probably in a longbox) if I had seen its video back in the day? Probably. If it had long hair, a leather jacket, and a pointy headstock, I was interested. I don’t think that part of me will ever change.
