I know Rotten Sound when I hear them. I can’t say the same for 99% of their grindcore peers. That gritty low end uses the Swedish death metal sound as a club. I am a masochist; I like being beaten by that club. Their new album Cursed has 16 such beatings, and “Self” is one of them. Its video is above. It’s everything I want it to be. I just want to see bald Finns punishing folks who pay to get punished.
There probably aren’t many such folks on the Finnish Metal Tour 2, which starts today (dates below). It’s a bunch of flutes-and-plastic-swords bands (Finntroll, Ensiferum, Barren Earth), and f***in’ Rotten Sound. (What genius put this thing together?) (Also, I have a soft spot for Finntroll, but don’t tell anyone.) I see lonely nights and “why are we on this tour again?”-in-Finnish ahead for Rotten Sound. See them play and make them feel less lonely, or at least pre-order Cursed (CD, CD/shirt package). It comes out March 15 on Relapse.
