On a label called Grindcore Karaoke, leave it to me to gravitate towards the one non-grindcore band.

At least I think it's the one non-grindcore band. I'm looking at Grindcore Karaoke's website, and 12 free downloads are staring back at me. This is called option paralysis. Also, no band should ever be named "Kunt Puncher".

Recently we interviewed Grindcore Karaoke proprietor J. Randall of Agoraphobic Nosebleed. In the interview and its comments, the idea arose that Randall and his label are acting as a filter. But it's already become a mini-replica of the Internet's glut of music. The filter needs a filter.

Thankfully, the good men in Romero emailed me and hepped me to their "Solitaire" 7". You can stream and download it for free below. They sure love Sabbath and Sleep; ergo, they're not particularly original. And stoner metal is not usually my thing. But damned if this doesn't get my head nodding and my blood flowing. The riffs are big and swinging, the vocals are big and melodic, and twangy breaks inject down-home character. Sometimes a heavy, good time is all one wants.

Well, I do want more - more than two songs. Hopefully Romero will write an album. And hopefully sometime they'll tour with fellow Wisconsinites Northless and open for ASG. I would travel to see that. In the meantime, they start a mid-to-western US tour this Friday (see dates below). See them and have a good time. It's that simple.
