To say that Chilean atmospheric death/doom band Rise to the Sky has been 'busy' may be an understatement: the project's upcoming album Two Years of Grief will be their seventh since 2019. Yet, the quality remains high: driven by huge, moving leads and immense, growled vocals, each album captures a facet of grief and mourning with painful clarity. On Two Years of Grief, carefully crafted motifs again dominate the record--each song feels like a hymn to tragedy. Death metal--and black metal, to an extent--factor a little more into the equation than on previous records, adding an aspect of dynamic ferocity.

Today, we're premiering a poignant video for "Funeral for My Home," which kicks off the album. The song sets the mood for Two Years of Grief perfectly: an air of quiet malaise that launches into a dramatic main act with a beefy drum fill. The guitar leads, serving as a narrative throughout the song, seem intricately synchronized with the video's imagery of reflection and bereavement. Rise to the Sky's approach to atmospheric doom/death metal is, above all else, vivid, and the video captures that: despite the heavy, oppressive instrumentation, their music distills one of humanity's core shared experiences--loss--into something incredibly expressive.
