Rickshaw Bille's Burger Patrol Rolls Out the "Body Bag" (Early Track Stream)
While naming their upcoming album Big Dumb Riffs is definitely funny, I think it's worth appreciating the strategic brilliance that Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol is demonstrating here as well. Almost every track on Big Dumb Riffs is built to be deployed against a live audience with chaotic results--the Austin mad scientists have succeeded in boiling riff rock down to its two explosive elements: the riff, and the rock. For bands like this Austin trio that thrive on live energy, having a back pocket full of bite-sized, ignorance-enacting rockers is a major tactical advantage.
For an example of one such force multiplier, check out the band's new single "Body Bag" below, which slaps together an incredibly gnarly riff and tone combination. Brash, sneering vocals seemingly dare listeners to try and find subtext or subtlety here--but the 2:34 track has no such cover to protect from its steamrolling attack. The band describes Big Dumb Riffs as an attempt at distilling heavy music down to the 'parts' that make it worthwhile, and "Body Bag" illustrates their concoction's success. Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol have ripped out the bloody, steaming hooks from rock's still breathing carcass and present them in gleeful triumph.
