Reeking Aura's "Groaning Moss" Eats Humanity Alive (Lyric Video Premiere)

beneath the canopy

Seeping through the festering soils and sands of this rotten earth are noises foul enough to poison the universe, and New Jersey’s Reeking Aura are channeling them with a particular nasty aplomb. We’re talking death metal, of course, but the moistened and oozing kind that reeks of doom metal, humanity’s dirge. Earlier this month, the six-piece released the Beneath the Canopy of Compost EP (subtle, right?), a three-song cheek-slapper that coats everything putrid green and then gut-punches you for the fun of it. Their brand of death-doom is caustic and brutal in all the right ways, never feeling try-hard or limp.

Personally, I feel a bit daft for having overlooked Beneath the Canopy of Compost last week — with a Colin Marston production and members from Unearthly Trance, Artificial Brain, Afterbirth, and more, this EP pretty much makes the decision for you: listen. It’s pretty much the sonic variant of physically decomposing in the ground. To help you achieve that effect, we’ve got a new lyric video for “Groaning Moss” streaming below.

The Beneath the Canopy of Compost EP released April 20th (hell yeah) and is available via Bandcamp.
