Prisoner Keep it Gross and Misanthropic on "Shroud" (Early Track Stream)
Virginia-based metallic miscreants Prisoner are set to release their sophomore album Putrid | Obsolete on March 15. The record uniquely balances the scales between industrial insanity and d-beat delinquency, with a sludgy backdrop to create an all-encompassing feeling of hatred and dread.
There is an underlying sense of emotionality within today’s premiere of “Shroud”; the interwoven intricacy of extreme music allows for this turbid tapestry to tell a harrowing tale of struggle and pain during the song’s nearly six-minute playthrough. Guitars help separate the line between hardcore and sludge sections, turning on a dime without much regard to having to stick to a traditional songwriting formula.

One of the band’s vocalists/guitarists, Pete Rozsa, had this to say about “Shroud”:
The lyrics are inspired by the collapse of the environment, caused by uncontrolled capitalism and the short-term desires of the ruling class poisoning the earth,” says Pete Rosa, gutarist and vocalist. “The first single, 'Leaden Tomb,' was more the hateful, angry emotional response to this issue, whereas 'Shroud' is the more nihilistic, depressed response.
