Plateau Sigma - Rituals (Album Premiere)

According to a wide selection of “trip journals,” Plateau Sigma is the ritual drug abuser’s nightmare end-game – self-disassociation, terrifying hallucinations, and general unpleasantness. Though generally an accidental discovery, Plateau Sigma is seen to the few who know it as the ultimate rush, a goal for the reckless and self-destructive.

The otherworldly “darkwave doom metal” of Plateau Sigma (the band) might not be the perfect representation of their namesake, but the idea of elevation holds fast. Utilizing elements of the aforementioned darkwave as well as classic “Peaceville 3” death/doom and Pink Floyd-tinged psychedelia, Plateau Sigma simultaneously remains rooted in their influences, but also transcends through coalescence. To rephrase, while undoubtedly influenced by the aforementioned trilogy, often alternating fluidly between the three, there are moments in which Plateau Sigma becomes something else entirely. A sum of their influences, sure, but efficient and effective in such a way that they become indistinguishable and Plateau Sigma rises above them something new: crushing, atmospheric, downtrodden, expansive. Something sad, painful, beautiful. Maybe there is a sublime ecstasy in pain.

Plateau Sigma’s Rituals will see a CD release by the legendary Avantgarde Music on the Ides of March (March 15th). Have an exclusive listen to the haunting, multi-faceted album below, and be sure to support your favorite artists and labels.

From the band:

“A recall and interpretation in doom-metal/dark-wave key of the rituality, solemnity and sensuality of the propitiatory rituals of war, death and love in the ancient Greek-Roman cultures. A liaison with a past that we still belong to, we are part of and should preserve with pride. While each song is an Ode to a divinity of the Roman Pantheon, the album as a whole is dedicated to God Bacchus. In our humble opinion doom metal is the best music genre to represent Dionysian atmospheres”.
