While everyone was down in Baltimore for MDF, those of us unfortunate enough to be elsewhere (we had good excuses!) took comfort in what we could. For me, that was catching Wolvhammer, Glorior Belli, and Sannhet at a Brooklyn stop on a tour sponsored by us here at IO on a Friday night. Not bad.

Brooklyn’s Sannhet opened and brought their light show and wall of post-black metal sound. It’s a set worth seeing; the lights, which look like schizophrenic TV static projected across the entire band, flicker and distort while Sannhet’s droning and near-insane drumming pummel away. I’ve praised them before, and I stand by that.

Glorior Belli took the stage next and played a ripper of a show. Front man Infestuus was a ball of energy, bouncing from stage to floor, and also a talker, chatting it up between songs. The band’s bluesy black metal has enough grit and low end to work with Wolvhammer’s blackened sludge, who capped off the night with a menacing set that lurched, roared, and blasted until midnight.

The tour, which terminated on the following Sunday, ended with a set at Maryland Deathfest (pictures HERE).
