Opeth share new song "Sorceress"

Opeth - Sorceress

Prog-metal legends Opeth have shared the first song and title track from their upcoming album Sorceress. You can listen to that below.

“Sorceress” is probably the most metal-leaning thing Opeth have put out since Watershed. While we still won’t get to hear Mikael Akerfeldt’s death growls any time soon, and the song still has the polish and seemingly mild-mannered effect of a lot of their recent material, it does revolve around a big, crunchy doom-metal inflected groove, with the usual prog noodling from the last couple albums filling the song out. As a first single, it works well: it’s more direct and to the point than Opeth sometimes are, and it has at least a couple hooks that land squarely.

Sorceress is set to drop on September 30th via Opeth’s new Nuclear Blast imprint Moderbolaget. They have tour dates coming up with The Sword.
