Old Wounds tour blog

Invisible Oranges is sponsoring the “Death Projection” tour by New Jersey metallic hardcore maniacs Old Wounds, alongside Exalt, in celebration of their new LP Death Projections. As if spreading our disease brand wasn’t enough cause for jubilee, Old Wound drummer Brandon Gallagher is keeping all of us here at home base up-to-date on the shows and shenanigans. It sounds like young Brandon and his cohorts are practicing responsible, adult decision-making. They’ve successfully made it through my home state of Ohio. Bellaire? May god have mercy on their souls.—ed.

Dispatch from the van. 9/15/2014

Please bear with me as I write this tour blog from the back seat of our van while Mikey is calling the Manhole, a hotline for bored truck drivers to talk dirty to each other.

The tour started off in Montclair, NJ for our Death Projection record release show. It was a late night for everyone involved. We didn’t get it going until almost 10pm, and we didn’t play until a little before 1am; true punk time. For a show that late, the pit was still strong and it was incredible to get a reaction like that in our home state.

After not getting back to our respectful cribs until almost 3am, we had a late start for tour the following day. Philadelphia was another wild one. We played in the kitchen of a house in West Philadelphia and the pit was stronger than ever.

Afterward, we partied with our buddy Mitch, Exalt’s bass player, who celebrated his 25th birthday that night. We started by bringing them to WaWa, always a great idea before a night of Bud heavy tallboys. I’ve never seen a group of people so excited and intrigued by a touch screen menu. It was wonderful.

We followed up the Philly show with a six-hour trek into the Ohio Valley. I don’t really have too much to say about Bellaire, OH besides the fact that we got SHEETZ before the show. Best place, best food. All Hail SHEETZ (the show was cool too).

Yesterday we played Morgantown, WV, another city we’ve never played before. The boys decided it would be a good idea to forever brand ourselves with tour tattoos. Our band and Exalt have a “crew” (in the loosest sense of the word) called the Barbaloo Crew; don’t ask, we don’t even really know what it means, ourselves. But we got it permanently etched in our skin as “B.C.,” alongside little traditional bat heads.

We capped off the night with a solid gig at 123 Pleasant St., a venue where many legendary bands, such as Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, and Cro-Mags, have taken the stage over its more-than-30-year history. We ended up capping the night with dollar Black Label beers at the bar, which resulted in a drunken mess for most of us, before the edgemen rounded us up for a late night Taco Bell drive-thru run. So far every show has been awesome, and it doesn’t look like it’s settling down anytime soon. Until next time.
