There may be something that resonates within the music, there may not be; it doesn’t matter. What matters is expression, and that is all which can be found here.

Black metal is meant to be liberating -- an escape from the popular norm of music, as well as, if you believe the rhetoric of many artists, for the spirit. A true form of expression, and even expressionism, black metal's crisp, atmospheric sounds are only for those who open themselves up to them and become one with the abstract. Odoacer believes in the greater, nonconforming idea of expressionism in black metal, and on their debut album, There the Vultures Will Gather, does this solo act find its center in the symbolism of the genre in which it finds home.

Both hypnotic and aggressive, the experimental black metal found within this album, too, is nonconforming to black metal's own tenets. Though this is aggressive and, as stated earlier, atmospheric, Odoacer's approach is different, almost progressive, possessing a grand ambiance and terrifying innate self. There the Vultures Will Gather finds itself wedged between the minimalism of classic, riff-based composition and a more modern form of composition, often using complex, arpeggiated chords and profound dynamics to help seal Odoacer's unique identity. There the Vultures Will Gather can be exclusively streamed in full below, featuring a statement from the artist.

From the artist:

There the Vultures Will Gather is an album of pure catharsis. It is an exploration of contempt, grief, and isolation through the lens of black metal and neither claims nor tries to be anything else. Written during a period of intense personal misery and seclusion before any global pandemic; it is an expression of anguish and frustration at a society determined to drown itself in its own stupidity whilst authoritarians reap the rewards. Betrayal, depression, and rage all played their part in crafting the sound of the record, and writing it would not have been possible without these facets. There the Vultures Will Gather is the first step into the world of black metal for Odoacer, a step not only free from, but primarily against any fascist nonsense, yet maintaining an understanding of the effectiveness black metal has in paradoxically augmenting and liberating destructive emotions. There may be something that resonates within the music, there may not be; it doesn’t matter. What matters is expression, and that is all which can be found here.
