New Blut aus Nord music!

. . .

I’m not normally one for “promotional” material, as I’m already deluged by actual releases. But I’m still a fan, and some bands still make me do fan-like things: sign up for mailing lists, hunger for scraps of news, etc. Blut aus Nord is one. This band has never disappointed me. I love its disharmonic side, but its harmonic side, if precious, still engages me. Despite an anonymous front, the band works hard and piques my curiosity with each release. I love artists who have signature styles yet explore new ideas.

Each time I click on the above teaser video (which I’ve done repeatedly) I get excited by the Godflesh-esque hip-hop beats. Normally electronics and metal don’t play well with each other. But Blut aus Nord consistently pushes the envelope, and as far as I’m concerned, the band can try whatever it wants. Godflesh left this “beats & darkness” thread hanging in the late ’90s, and to a certain extent bands like Ulver and Dødheimsgard picked it up (maybe also Mortiis and Aborym), only to drop it. But I think there’s life in the sound yet. Maybe Blut aus Nord is its next vessel.

The teaser also reveals that The Sanctification, the second part of the 777 trilogy (writeup of first part here), will likely continue both the disharmonic and harmonic sides of Blut aus Nord. Before, they were segregated, but 777 – Sect(s) mingled the two to great effect. Pure light and pure darkness aren’t that interesting, anyway. When you mix the two and start getting shadows – that when things get interesting.

The Desanctification is casting a long shadow already. It doesn’t come out until November (15th in North America, 11th for the rest of the world), but you can pre-order it from Debemur Morti here.
