New Autopsy music!

Speaking of Ross Sewage, he appears in the promotional trailer above for Autopsy’s The Tomb Within. The five-track EP contains the band’s first new music since officially reforming last year. (For last year’s two-disc Severed Survival reissue, Autopsy recorded two new songs on a one-off basis.  Those songs also came out as the Horrific Obsession 7″; hear them here and here.)

Peaceville has set up this site to promote the EP. Like the one for Darkthrone’s latest record, it’s a compact, informative way to get into the “world” of the release. The site contains bio and discography info, an interview, and this page that streams clips from all five songs. (Hit “play” every once in a while to jog the player along.) The clips sound great. Chris Reifert’s voice is as expressive as ever, and the production is professional but not overly slick.

I’m especially excited for Autopsy’s near future: a full-length and hopefully some touring. I never got to see Autopsy back in the day, and I missed them this year at MDF. (How was it?) I saw Abscess play some years ago, and that was 3/4 of Autopsy, but the experience was underwhelming, and the material and spirit were, of course, different from Autopsy’s. Judging from Abscess’ final two releases, Dawn of Inhumanity (reviewed here) and a split with Population Reduction (reviewed here), the core personnel of Autopsy are in top form, and their outlook looks bright.

The Tomb Within comes out on October 5. You can pre-order the CD in the US here, or in Europe here. LP pre-orders are here and come with a poster of the artwork by Matt Cavotta.
