If all the recent tumult in black metal circles has got you feeling down, Denmark’s Møl have an answer. The group’s purgative blackgaze is aggressive while uplifting — as cathartic as it is scorching to the soul. With two EPs under their belt, Møl are poised to release their debut full-length Jord. Slip into their soothing embrace with the new music video for the album’s second track “Bruma” premiering exclusively below:

As with the rest of the songs on Jord, “Bruma” has been painted with tender and sumptuous brushstrokes. The vivid colors in the band’s palette are derived in no small part from the luxuriant and swirling guitars, the storm into which vocalist Kim Song Sternkopf issues his desperate howls. The music is a violent confluence of grace and anguish, frozen in time, suspending its debris in midair.

Møl tastefully remove themselves entirely from the video, electing instead to provide a wholly story-driven experience with their music as its soundtrack. “‘Bruma’ is by far the darkest and most ominous track on Jord. Its narrative addresses our constant battle with the passing of time,” the band said in a collective statement:

As human beings, we fear the expiration of life and avoid the topic if confronted with the question of death. In modern culture we struggle to let go of our youth, as if we would go on living forever, and avoid the hard truth that everything eventually will come to an end. We all strive to make a mark that will last past our own lifetime — to make something that will make us timeless. However, in doing so we lose sight of the present. This is what the song challenges.

Møl will release Jord via Holy Roar Records on April 13th. Stream the second track “Penumbra” and pre-order the album on Bandcamp here.
