Eyehategod frontman Mike IX Williams has been struggling for some time with medical issues that have led to the band cancelling scheduled shows in 2014 and 2016. Most recently, Phil Anselmo stood in for Williams for two shows and Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe performed Eyehategod’s vocals for the band’s fall tour with Discharge. It has recently been revealed that the source of his ongoing illness is liver failure due to cirrhosis, as detailed in a YouCaring account set up by his long-term partner, Michelle Maher-Williams.

The page reads: “In April 2016, he was again cleared to tour with EHG. With only a couple of dates left of the tour, he was found unresponsive in his hotel room. He was rushed to the hospital in KY and put on life support. A few days later, ever the fighter, he came out of his coma and was able to breathe on his own. Two weeks later, we returned to New Orleans to consult with his specialists. It was apparent that his liver just wasn’t healing quickly enough to provide him with a life of quality. He would need a liver transplant.”

We wish Williams a full and speedy recovery.
