Metal Mixtape: Tygers of Pan Twang
Since everyone’s rolling out summer jams (see various metallers’ here and here), I figured I’d do so, too. And since Independence Day is coming up, I figured I’d put together some (mostly) American jams. What’s more American than twang? (Besides ignorance and obesity, that is.)
Here are 12 twang-eriffic tunes (mostly) related to metal. The only actual metal comes via Zakk Wylde’s one-off Southern metal band in the ’90s, Pride & Glory, and the hilariously bad “Tore Up & Loud” by Hank III. (He can be better – see his awesome Straight to Hell record.) Helmet contributes a banjo experiment from Betty. There are bluegrass covers of AC/DC, At the Gates, and Metallica (you can stream the latter above), and acoustic ditties from ASG, Down, Weedeater, and Night Horse. The latter has a sweet EP downloadable for free here. Finally, there are non-metal artists Steve Earle and Old Crow Medicine Show, simply because they’re great.
41 minutes of steel string glory – download below. Enjoy!
