Hailing from… somewhere in Russia's expansive landmass, Majestat's black metal might at first come off as traditional, and yet, upon further scrutiny, their impending debut Предсмертный дар (A Gift Before Death) looks beyond Norway in favor of finding their own (hidden) unique sound. With a strong melodic sense to be found in their lead guitar lines, it's actually Majestat's chordal approach which is particularly interesting–featuring a duality of almost folkish melodies and big, open, almost hollow chords, even their most aggressive and pummeling moments feature a ghastly affectation, and it's this ghost-like character which really defines Majestat's namesake majesty. Предсмертный дар (A Gift Before Death) envelops the listener with crisp tones, strange and inhuman performances, and a distinct pride which can only be found in Russian black metal.
