Live Report: Hole In The Sky—The Last Supper
New York City metal blogger Stefan Raduta made a pilgrimage to Norway for Bergen’s Hole In The Sky—The Last Supper. The massive five-day festival was held in late August for the last time: 2011 was the 12th and final year of Hole In The Sky. Stefan generously shared some of his words and images with Invisible Oranges. Hole In The Sky—The Last Supper was, for a few lucky bastards (bands and fans alike), a First, Last And Always experience. For most people, the loyal guests of the festival who’ve been there up to 10 years in a row, it was the ultimate reason to celebrate: The festival they had grown to love would be no more.
It really felt like a fantastic but bittersweet ending, particularly emotional in the last night right before Immortal started, when the organizers finally came on stage to thank everyone. They were overwhelmed by the energy of the crowd, clearly full of both joy and sadness, trying hard to hide their tears. And the crowd really felt it; they felt it and responded accordingly in a wall of sound.
The lineup was quite bombastic; this time around, though, it seemed fitted for a very special ending. Great sets were expected from Norway’s biggest four names in the game still active today—Immortal, Mayhem, Enslaved and Satyricon—along with St. Vitus, In Solitude, Primordial, Nifelheim, Negative Plane, Procession, Grand Magus, Ghost, Archgoat, Mortuary Drape, Black Witchery, Marduk…
The Last Supper was going to rule from the start. And it fucking did!
