Live Photos & Video: A Life Once Lost, Author & Punisher, Helen Money

Author & Punisher

The winner for the most eclectic bill of 2013 could go to The Acheron last night (3/24), when A Life Once Lost teamed with Author & Punisher & Helen Money at the Brooklyn venue. Pictures and video from the show are below.

Helen Money opened the evening, using samples, an armada of effects and loop pedals to enhance her cello compositions. Far from traditional, Helen Money’s pieces draw more from the epic post-metal of Neurosis than classical compositions. A Life Once Lost headlined the night, adhering closer to “groove” than than their previous groove-y hardcore efforts have suggested.

The most fascinating act of the evening waas most definitely Author & Punisher, a one-man industrial doom/drone outfit that clearly counts Godflesh as an influence. Using machined-equipment as sample/synth triggers, Tristan Shone’s (aka A&P) live set blurs the lines between man and machine, and the added PA for his set just punctuated the brutal power of his riveting pieces and performance.
