Killing Joke

Massively influential UK post-punk band Killing Joke kicked off a set of US dates at Irving Plaza in NYC on Friday (4/19), a rare two-week tour on our shores. Tight, powerful and inspiring both mosh and pogo pits alike, the band’s live show is anchored by wide-eyed maniac Jaz Coleman, who stomped around on stage while the remainder of the quartet stayed cooly stoic. The band’s performance was mostly focused on their singles collection, which gathers material from across their 30-year output. Setlist is below.

Chicago band Czar opened the evening with Isis-style space-y post-metal interlaced with nu-metal open-string-chug breakdowns.
