IO Presents: Anicon & Wayfarer on Tour

I first met Owen Rundquist, singer and guitarist in New York’s Anicon in the mosh pit for Carcass at Maryland Deathfest 2013. Since then seeing the band grow in esteem and songwriting has been a pleasure. In 2014, Rundquist was named the best vocalist in New York City by The Village Voice, and this year the band’s first full-length album was released by Avantgardemusic.

That said, it wasn’t until Migration Fest that I was able to experience Anicon live. Three years was worth the weight. The band split the difference between the propulsive churn of most black thrash with heady moroseness reminiscent of some depressive-suicidal takes on the genre. And on a strictly aesthetic note, I don’t think I’ve seen another black metal musician play a semi-hollow body guitar, which I thought was neat.

Feel free to experience it for yourself though, Anicon are hitting the road with Denver’s Wayfarer for the majority of November. Follow Anicon and Wayfarer on Facebook.
