InvisibleOranges + East Village Radio

IO on EVR: Playlist and archived stream from 5/13/2014, East Village Radio shutting down

Scab Casserole and Wyatt Marshall (me) hosted IO’s weekly Invisible Oranges on East Village Radio show last night. The show was a real doozy, and we gave away tickets to Agalloch‘s IO-sponsored show on June 30th. Congrats, Steve!

It was with heavy, metal, hearts that we learned that East Village Radio will be shutting down at the end of next week. Scab and I will make sure we go out with a bang, so, now, more than ever, be sure to tune in next week! We’ll celebrate with one last show, dedicated to you, our listeners, and the spirit of heavy metal. Horns will be raised and beers will be had.

East Village Radio has been an incredible platform for us, and we thank them for being a great partner throughout this ride. East Village Radio will be missed. It’s an awesome station, loaded with shows playing every type of music you could ever want to hear. EVR is a great resource for learning about music—the hosts are charismatic, insanely knowledgable, and aren’t bound by any sort of rules as to what can and can’t be played. The station embodied a sort of free-spirited, you-make-the-rules approach to music, and if you haven’t already, now is the time to check out some of the station’s other fantastic shows, like the awesome Black n Blue Takeover that airs before us and Georgie O’Kell’s inimitable Pop Goes the Future that plays after us every night (and on Fridays). It’s been incredible to be on the same roster with such a talented group of people. The station served the East Village for over ten years, pumping out music that reflected the tastes and lives of the community around it. If you’ve never walked by the studio, it’s a small glass booth right off First Street and First Avenue in the heart of the East Village. That’s where Kramer once got lost at the nexus of the universe. It’s a special feeling to be in that booth, something of a life-affirming event to be in the studio watching the East Village happen around you. We’ve always loved it and have reveled a bit in the looks we got for blasting metal out into the streets. We’ll make sure to turn it up for next week’s show.

You can read more about East Village Radio’s closing over at Brooklyn Vegan. Below is our playlist, loaded with all the killer jams we played last night—I even snuck in some Type O Negative, Prurient and Vain, and closed out with Helloween. m/. You can listened to our archived stream over at EVR. Tune in next week for our last show on East Village Radio!

One more thing—just because East Village Radio is shutting down, doesn’t mean Invisible Oranges radio is shutting down. As always, stay tuned…
