"We give our lives we give our love / And praise you to the stars above / We feel your power your burning fire /You raise our spirits ever higher."

This isn't really a typical verse for the opening of a metal track, but then again Sabbath Assembly aren't a typical metal band. In fact, other than a predilection for the apocalypse, they aren't really metal at all. But sometimes that's all you really need.

Their new album, Ye Are Gods, presents the hymns of the Process Church of the Final Judgment, a religious movement that emerged in the 1960's to preach the message of Christ and Satan reconciled, with each worthy of worship. Ye Are Gods contains the actual, ritual text used in the Process Church's highest mass, which just so happens to be called the Sabbath Assembly.

The band's members come from heavyweight metal projects like Hammers of Misfortune (The Locust Years) and Wolves in the Throne Room, so it's clear they have the credentials; I just can't decide if they are kvlt or just creepy. Listen to "We Give Our Lives" below and give us your own dogmatic judgment.
