IO Album Giveaway: Grails/Pharaoh Overlord's "Black Tar Prophecies Volume 5"

There must be something in that tepid Portland air that causes bands like Grails (and Om, the Byzantine chant-influenced duo Grails shares a drummer with) to create an understated arrangement of instrumental noise rock in the vein of acts like Pelican and Red Sparowes. Joining up with Finnish experimental rock band Pharoah Overlords to split Volume 5 of the Black Tar Prophecies, each band clocks in merely four and two tracks respectively, but the vast expanse of impenetrable sounds on this record will make you think it is slowly expanding towards the end of time.

To enter to win your copy of Black Tar Prophecies Volume 5, released today, tell us in the comments below about your favorite experimental noise album of 2012 thus far. As always, you must have a mailing address in the US or Canada to be eligible to win.

You can hear Stereogum’s premiere of Grails’ “Wake Up Drill II” from Volume 5, a follow-up to their 2006 track “Belgian Wake Up Drill” HERE.
