Horns & Hooves Erects a "Baphomet in Steel" (Early Track Premiere)

I don’t cover enough blasphemous metal here at Invisible Oranges. Make no mistake, there is a cornucopia of the sacrilegious and offensive in metal, and Horns & Hooves would make Tipper Gore and her cronies get light-headed. Filled with raunchy sex act references (this might be the only time we ever cover anything which mentions “bussy” in a serious, conceptual manner) and anti-Christian messages, it’s Horns & Hooves’ brand of disgusting, riff-oriented black metal which hearkens back to black metal’s edgier salad days, when being ridiculous was the norm as a young genre found its footing.

But it isn’t all bussy and Satan (though there is a lot of both of those). Horns & Hooves is a serious metal band, and an exciting black metal act at that. Rife with references to the greats, this perverse US black metal act’s long-awaited debut I am the Skel Messiah matches their over-the-top personalities with equally as ridiculous riffing and songwriting chops. Though this album borders on the silly at times, metal’s roots were just that. I mean, look at Manowar, or even Darkthrone back in the day. Serious metal can be goofy, and that is okay! Fuck Christ, right? Listen to an advance of Horns and Hooves’ “Baphomet in Steel” below.

I am the Skel Messiah releases June 17th via Invictus Productions.
