Hayaino Daisuki - The Invincible Gate Mind of some long-ass title or another

Generally, if you told me about a band that played ’80s speed metal grindcore-style with a screamy singer, I would tell you off. But that singer is Jon Chang, that band is Hayaino Daisuki, and I’m lovin’ it. Despite the shtick being exactly the same as last time, shtick don’t matter when it’s faceward-bound at five billion miles an hour. I have heard enough fast bands to shorten my lifespan in some sort of freaky relativity effect, and I don’t know if Hayaino Daisuki are the fastest band I’ve ever heard — but I do know that Hayaino Daisuki sound like the fastest band I’ve ever heard.

Ghosts of Purgatory (excerpt)

Which is much more important. It really doesn’t matter if you play blastbeats at 275 or 300 bpm, because at some point your cognition switches off, and everything becomes a blur (read: boring). When you leave room for snares to smack you upside the head, things get nastier. And nasty this EP is, 12 minutes and 20 seconds of shotgunning Red Bulls repeatedly until your insides are liquefied. The view from the ceiling is great, though. I see some Asian guys, who may or may not be from Jersey or Japan. There’s the salt-and-pepper-bearded gaijin bassist from Burnt by the Sun. The drummer has four arms. And there’s a girl on the mic sometimes. I think. I can’t see straight, cos I’m WIRED.
