Greatest Hits: Thank You Ludicra

. . .

I wrote for IO from 2012 to 2014, so my tenure never overlapped with Cosmo Lee’s stewardship of the site. Still, like so many of us who have passed through those (digital) doors, his writing and ethos for the blog was what first drew me in as a reader. It’s difficult to choose just one piece he wrote as emblematic of the kind of site he ran, but “Thank you, Ludicra,” written in July 2011 following that band’s breakup, seems as good as any. Cosmo was emotionally invested in Ludicra, and it came through in his brief elegy. When I remember their work, I remember The Tenant, still one of my favorite American metal albums of all time, and then I think of Cosmo, pouring one out for them like no one else could.
